2018 is almost gone. Caught me by surprise, like always. You too? Maybe?
All in all, not a bad year. Toe stress fracture, broken left knee meniscus. Still alive. Still playing tennis. Occasional MRI here and there isn’t stopping me from waking up every morning thinking, “Where do I hit today?”
Maybe you’re not as crazy about tennis as I am. Maybe you are more crazy, who knows? Or maybe you are just a casual player thinking of getting into better shape in 2019.
I will confirm – under oath, if needed – that tennis isn’t just a sport that will make you faster, stronger and healthier. Nevermind an occasional injury – we are not getting any younger. I’d much rather get injured at a tennis court than standing up from the desk at the end of a work day. It’s also a great social tool – maybe even better than Facebook and Twitter, who knows? – to meet new people, make new connections, and simply have fun. It’s a lifestyle, not a sport. That’s why they say, “If tennis is interfering with work – quit work.” There are actual napkins sitting on my desk with these exact words.
Houston, don’t quit your job yet. But do play more tennis in 2019. Especially when there’s a new league in town with more players at all skill levels, better prizes, and shorter driving times. It doesn’t get easier than that: sign up for Houston Winter 2019 Singles Season absolutely FREE. Literally takes 2 minutes, less if your fingers are quicker than average folk’s (that’s a good sign – perhaps you have Nadal’s spin potential?)
Get fit. Have fun. Socialize. Have a good healthier 2019.
I’ll see you at the courts!
